Harvey Karp, M.D.

Dr. Harvey Karp, serves as co-chair of the Science Advisory Committee of The Children's Health Environmental Coalition and a medical spokesperson for CHEC's National Environmental Childproofing Campaign.

He has been a practicing pediatrician and child development specialist for 25 years and is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles.

 



His medical expertise in the field of children's environmental health is well established both nationally and statewide in California. He works closely with the National Resource Defense Council and has been a spokesperson on children's environmental health for the American Academy of Pediatrics and Physicians for Social Responsibility. In California, he has served as an adviser to the California Department of Health Services and the California Medical Association.

Dr. Karp continues to work steadfastly to improve

parent, public and political awareness of environmental health issues and risk reductions. He is on the Board of Directors of the Children's Health Environmental Coalition (CHEC) and Mothers and Others for a Livable Planet. As such, he is a regular contributor to The Green Guide, Mothers and Others monthly publication, and a contributing writer of the Dr.'s Viewpoint column of the CHEC Report, CHEC's quarterly newsletter.

A relaxed, sensitive and professional communicator, Dr. Karp projects well in broadcast and print media interviews directed to parents, professionals and legislators.

Dr. Karp is also the author of "The Happiest Baby on the Block" a witty and helpful book that teaches new parents why babies cry and how to help them.
