Spokespeople | Partners | Allies Kelly Preston <<Back to Spokespeople While publicly admired and recognized for her role as an actress -- she has co-starred in such films as "Twins", "Jerry Maguire," and "For Love of the Game," -- first and foremost Kelly Preston prides herself most on her roles as devoted wife of film star John Travolta and dedicated mother of two young children: eight-year-old Jett and one-year-old Ella Bleu. Her role as "Mom" keeps her especially busy as she spends much of her time making sure her children grow up in a healthy and safe environment. "It's not like 30 years ago, when the only way you'd get poisoned is if you accidentally swallowed something from under the sink," she explains. " Now it's as simple as breathing the air or eating certain foods." Her concern about serious health risks children face daily due to frequent exposure to environmental and chemical toxic pollutants, began shortly after she became a mom herself. Since then, she has become increasingly more knowledgeable about the effect of toxins on children and steadfastly committed to sharing with others this information. She does so enthusiastically, always making sure to include alternative safe practices and products that she has adopted in her own home. Ms. Preston has committed her talent and time to spreading her message most recently as an active member of the Board of Directors of the Children's Health Environmental Coalition (CHEC). Presently, she is co-starring in "Not Under My Roof: Protecting Your Baby From Toxins at Home," an educational video produced by CHEC. The film also stars Olivia Newton-John, CHEC's national spokesperson and Preston's infant daughter, Ella Bleu, and is the first part of CHEC's multi-media environmental child protection campaign aimed to reach the expectant and new parents of more than 4 million new babies estimated to be born this year. "Start in your own home," she advises parents. "Do whatever you can, even if you only do it for your family, friends and the people you come in contact with, and then start to branch out. The more you learn, the more you want to do to help the environment and others." In addition to Kelly's work with CHEC, she has supported organizations focused on environmental education, particularly the Beyond Pesticides/National Coalition Against the Misuse of Pesticides (N-CAMP). Enthusiastic, energetic and engaging, Ms.
Preston delivers an excellent interview for all media formats. |
